China's first C919 came off the production line days ago. Its weight has been reduced by 7% by adopting composite materials extensively. ACT, an aramid honeycomb core company in Songjiang district. And Tanlon, a polysulphonamide fiber company in Fengxian district. These two companies from Shanghai will contribute more to C919's weight saving.
Aramid honeycomb core is widely used in interiors and exteriors of Boeing and Airbus commercial aircrafts.It’s 30% to 60% stronger than aluminum honeycomb core, but 25% to 30% lighter.
Polysulphonamide fiber could be woven into curtain and seat cloth. Lighter than wool. But totally flame retardant even heated into 1000 degrees Celsius.
